Chris D Horton Legacy Sniper Comp
October 16- 18th, 2026
So, what is it? Take a look for yourself.

Chris D. Horton
Specialist Christopher D. Horton died in Paktia, Afghanistan on September 9, 2011, during a complex ambush. Specialist Horton was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 279 Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, as a sniper.
His wife made a comment to me that she didn't know how to keep Chris's legacy alive since they never had kids to carry on his name. This bothered me for years, until in 2019 we put together the first sniper match in his honor. His wife flies in from DC to officiate the event and it's a great time to remember Chris, cross-load information between sniper teams and continue to keep our skills sharp.
Schedule & Details
Is this event free to watch?
Heck yes it is! This is a fundraiser so if you’d like to do a free will donation, there will be QR codes at each stage, or an ammo can you can throw cash or checks in!
Where do the proceeds go?
All proceeds benefit Contact Front, a veteran-run nonprofit based in Jackson, NE.
Founded by veterans who understand the challenges of life after service, Contact Front’s mission is to help one another — one day at a time — thanks to the generous support of donors and sponsors.
Where do I go?
Friday, Oct 16 – Sniper Meet & Greet (6:00 PM)

👉 You must have a wristband to watch any stage.
Vendor Booths at HQ: Remember to swing into our headquarters and check out Fatboy Tripods, TacomHQ, Dynamic X1, Breek Arms and more! We normally throw some neat prize table stuff in their and have some cool cars to check out also! This year we have raffles that you can get in on! You don’t have to be present to win, but you won’t want to miss out on these guns!
What should I bring?
Hearing protection (if you have your own)
Binoculars
Snacks, water, and maybe a small backpack
A cooler or drinks you can carry yourself (yes, beer is fine 🍻)
You’ll be shuttled in Humvees to each main Command Center, then possibly in a side-by-side to specific stages. Please note:
➡️ Because this is a live-fire event, you cannot walk between stages on your own.
➡️ The less gear you bring, the smoother the process goes!
Are dogs allowed?
🐕 Not this year — transporting them between stages is tough on volunteers and other spectators.
Is this family-friendly?
Absolutely! Bring the kids! 👨👩👧👦
You can come and go between stages as much as you’d like. Stay all day or just check out a few — it’s totally up to you!
